Christina Nam, violin

Praised for her “gleaming tone” (Gramophone) and “brilliance of the lyrical passages” (Classicamente), 23-year-old violinist, Christina Nam, has concertized around the world appearing in recitals and as a soloist with numerous orchestras. Recipient of many accolades both at international and national competitions, at age 14, Ms. Nam received Second Prize in Cooper International Violin Competition where she appeared with Maestro Jahja Ling and the Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall. Ms. Nam has worked with prominent conductors such as Louis Langrée, Robert Trevino, and Cristian Macelaru.

Nam recently performed the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto as a soloist with the Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra in Jakarta, Indonesia, under Maestra Rebecca Tong. She returned August 2024 to perform the Sibelius Violin Concerto. Ms. Nam was invited to participate in the Junior category of the prestigious Menuhin Competition 2018 Geneva, Switzerland. During the competition, she was chosen as soloist with the Orchestre du Conservatoire de Musique de Genève under the baton of Maestro Antoine Marguier. She was a featured recitalist for the Matinee Musicale Cincinnati concert series with pianist, Rohan de Silva. This past summer, she participated in the Verbier Festival Academy 2025, and received the Prix Reyl Award for violinists at the Academy.

As a devoted chamber musician, she is a member of the Amara Trio, formed at Kneisel Hall in 2023, and recent gold medalists of the Chesapeake International Chamber Competition. They have performed at venues such as Alice Tully Hall, Paul Hall, Ebenezer Theater, and Prior-Jollek Hall in the Virgin Islands. Over the past year, they participated in Juilliard's Honors Chamber Music program and festivals like the Perlman Music Program and Chesapeake Music Festival, as well as the Sundays at Three Chamber Music Series in Maryland. They performed a recital at LeFrak Hall at Queen’s College as part of the Chamber Music Live series, and a performance at the Academy Art Museum’s "Music At Noon" series in Maryland.

 

She currently attends the Juilliard School as a full-scholarship Greene Foundation fellowship student, studying with Catherine Cho and Donald Weilerstein. Upon graduating her Bachelor’s degree, Juilliard awarded her the Peter Mennin Prize for outstanding achievement and leadership in music.
